The continental drift hypothesis was proposed in 1912 by Alfred Wegener. It was not accepted thought until he died. It stated that the continents moved slowly from once Pangaea, a large landmass composed of all the continents joined together, to their current positions.
> Pangaea began to break apart about 200 million years ago
> There's predicted movement of the plates over the next 100 million years
> Wegener's evidence for continental drift and Pangaea

- Puzzle-like fit of continents~ South America and Africa fit together
- Fossil clues~ similar fossils found on different continents
- Climate~ remains of warm weather plants in artic areas, glacial deposits and markings in tropical areas
- Rocks~ coal field layes found in Brazil match with the coal field layers in Africa, a mountain chain in Africa has its other side in South America
